Malibu Fundraiser

Tyree August 20th, 2008

For those of you living in the Southern California region, there will be a fundraising event for the FrenchBulldog Village at the Pet Headquarters located on Pacific Coast Highway and Cross Creek Road in Malibu. The event will take place Saturday, August 23 from 11:00AM to 4:00PM. There will be a Frenchie kissing booth, Frenchie merchandise, and a listing of available dogs. FB Village graduate Kirby will be there along with K-Kid Gabbi. Stop by and say Hi!

New faces around the block

Tyree August 15th, 2008

It’s been a hectic week at the Village as we greet four new fosters and welcome back a former graduate.

First up is Sweetie Petie, a doe-eyed brindle girl around 3 or 4 years old. She was sprung from a Kentucky animal shelter by one of our ever-vigilant FBV volunteers. We don’t know her story and her foster family is still evaluating her physical health and temperament, but I think it is safe to say that, even through the blurry picture, she definitely looks like a Sweetie!

Next, we have Gabbi, a 5-year old fawn California girl who loves to sun herself on sandy beaches. Her previous owner had some health problems and asked one of our volunteers to help Gabbi find the perfect home. Gabbi is the quintessential Frenchie diva and can turn more heads than a Hollywood starlet.

Then, we have Stewie, who became displaced when the older Frenchie in the household decided he really did not like this young upstart in his family. Stewie is a 13-week old pied male, full of all the love and spunk that comes with being young. So far he is healthy and getting along well with the other dogs in the house. His foster mom is currently working on his house manners (and her timing!)

The Village also picked up Rocky, a Frenchie-Boston Terrier mix with floppy ears and cuteness to spare. Rocky’s Boston Terrier brother did not like him either so he was handed over to us. A pair of very dedicated volunteers drove 22 hours round trip to pick up this little guy. Rocky is two years old, neutered and gets along with kids, other dogs, and people (although he seems to prefer women over men).

Finally, we welcome back Betty Boop. This gentle gal has certainly lived her share of bad days and has always come out on top, all without losing her loving disposition. Through no fault of her own, Betty is now back with the Village and once again looking for a place to hang up her leash permanently.

It all goes without saying that none of these dogs would be here if it weren’t for the dedication and tireless efforts of our volunteers. Many of them put aside what they are doing, hop in their car, and drive, sometimes hundreds of miles, to pick up a Frenchie in need. Each and every time. Thank you to ALL our volunteers. The Village would not be here if it was not for them!

Elroy is breathing easier

Tyree August 10th, 2008

Elroy underwent surgery on Thursday and is recuperating under the watchful eye of his foster mom who, ever the opportunist, created a comfy spot on the couch where she can love on him as much as she can. He will only tolerate her mothering for about a half hour before politely asking to be put down. She is hopeful her persistence will wear him down, though, and he will soon become a typical Frenchie attention hog.

Elroy had a centimeter and a half taken off his palate and had his nares opened up. The vet who did the surgery remarked that his tongue was probably the largest he had ever seen. Now, he is breathing easier and enjoying life (and his food) much more. While under, he also had his more manly parts removed. Apparently, he was not happy with this particular life-altering event, but his foster mom thinks he will get over it.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Elroy!

Mia has a new family of her own!

Mia has taken the Bus to her forever home! She was picked up this past Saturday and her new family is showering her with all the love and affection she deserves. She even has a Jack Russell terrier to play with. Congratulations Mia!

He had her at “Yarw!”

Moses arrived at the Village this past week and his foster mom has been unable to do anything besides stare into those deep soulful eyes. She reports that he is the sweetest, most charming bully ever. He gets along with everyone and everything and makes the most adorable little snorts. Oh and of course, he is cute.

Moses came to us through a series of unfortunate circumstances. His previous owners were unable to properly care for him and had to surrender him to their vet for treatment. The vet not only continued the treatment without compensation, but held onto Moses for two weeks until she could deliver him into our possession. The good doctor also sent along tons of toys and treats to help Moses adjust in his new foster home.

We are certainly happy to have Moses in our Village and are thankful to all the people who helped to get him to us. We are positive that we will find him a good home that will be able to care for his special needs. Although, his foster mom may have to seek some therapy when he finally leaves for his forever home…
