Elroy is no longer singin’ the blues

Tyree July 14th, 2008

Elroy was surrendered to the Village this past weekend after he was returned to the breeder for being unable to fulfill his “manly” obligations. This beautiful fawn boy from Missouri is now roosting at a foster home in Texas. Here is what his foster mom has to say about her latest addition:

He has the happiest disposition you will ever see. He wags his tail and looks up at me with the softest brown eyes. He will also come up to me and lick my hand very quickly, and then run back into his crate, his whole body wiggling. The bottom line on him is that he likes people; he just has no idea what to do with us. He has stepped out of his crate voluntarily and ran around my living room and kitchen, wiggling that big old tail of his. I leave the crate open, then go cook or do something else, and he will come out to find me. I give him a little turkey if he comes to me freely. He eats it and runs off to his crate, then comes back a minute later. Elroy gets along well with other dogs and is already smitten with his foster sister.

He may have a palate problem as his breathing is a bit labored. He will be heading off to the vet tomorrow to have it checked out. We will keep you posted on what we find out!

Otis Too update and meetup

Tyree July 10th, 2008

Otis Too has been blossoming under the watchful eye of his foster mom, veterinarian Lisa. She reports that he is doing very well for himself these days. He is down to 36.5 pounds and his waistline is starting to come in. He followed Lisa to work at the clinic this past weekend and was extremely responsive to whatever people asked him to do (for instance, waiting in the room instead of running down the hall). He is also becoming quite savvy in dog speak these days and makes friends wherever he goes. He does like to have his opinion heard while playing, but the other dogs ignore it as it is just Otis being Otis.

Both Lisa and Otis Too, along with Lisa’s Frenchie Kermit, will be at the Rescue Roundup in Flagstaff, AZ this Saturday. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by and say hi. Otis Too would LOVE to meet you!

Molly knows how to chill…

Tyree July 10th, 2008

Have you met little Miss Molly O’Malley McGee? You haven’t? You should. She’s quite charming with her one blue eye and her one brown eye. Molly came to us back in March. She used to live in a commercial kennel in Tennessee and it did not seem like she had had much interaction with people. Life has changed though for Molly since coming to the Village. Here’s what her foster mom, Debby, reports:

Molly is making a little progress with letting us touch her. This morning for the very first time, she put her front paws on my chair to let me love on her! I was so excited that I yelled for David to look at her and she got scared and took off! However, she did come back later and I got to pet her. She really likes to be loved–but only on her terms. She is very playful and loves to play with our other Frenchie Mia! They run laps through the house, outside, then back through the house again. Molly also loves the little pool in our backyard. After running her laps, she will jump in the pool and flop down on her belly to cool off.

Molly is a very good eater–in fact, we have to be careful because she will eat anything! She is almost house broken and we are working on getting her leash trained. She’s not quite ready to get on the Bus yet, but we know she will make someone a wonderful companion someday!

Help us shut down puppy importers!

Tyree July 7th, 2008

Gina Price of Rebel Ridge Kennels is currently on trial in federal court in Tennessee for abuses in connection with the sale of imported puppies and there is a very good chance of having investigations of other importers started if we can gather enough buyer complaints to show a pattern of fraud.

The federal prosecution of Price and the fact that Brenda Moncrieff (BulldogRavine, APlusBulldogs, and HeavenlyFrenchBulldogs) has voluntarily surrendered her kennel license to the Pennsylania authorities and taken down her websites shows us that responsible breeders and owners and purchasers of French Bulldogs CAN make a difference. Price and Moncrieff were two of the most prolific and abusive of the puppy import resellers.

The Wrong Puppy (www.thewrongpuppy.org) is asking for your help. We need to gather as many complaints as possible about the purchase of import puppies from each and every abusive puppy import broker or reseller still hanging out their shingle. Warren James, one of the puppy buyers from Gina Price, set up a website called RebelRidgeKennelsIsBad.com (no longer in existence), which he used to collect complaints from puppy buyers. He had more than 30 complaints when the FBI investigation against Price started and more than 200 by the time the decision to prosecute was made.

We need to gather information and documents that we can use to justify prosecution of more of the bad guys. The information we need is:

1. What the buyers were promised, and

2. What the buyers received.

Documentation should include:

1. Purchase agreement and health guarantee;

2. Registration papers;

3. All emails and correspondence between the buyer and the seller or anyone working for the seller;

4. Vet records, including diagnoses and invoices

Please contact Attorney John Hoffman at canada@dslextreme.com if you have available documentation, or simply mail the documentation directly to his office at John E. Hoffman, Esq., 4035 Robin Hill Road, Flintridge, California 91011-3811.

Be sure to include any envelopes in which things were mailed, and records of any wire or Internet transfers of money in connection with the purchase of their puppy, because it is necessary to show use of the mails or wire facilities (including Internet and Western Union transfers) to show fraud by mail and fraud by wire, each of which carry sentences of up to 10 years in prison.

We especially need your help if you are a former employee who has information and/or copies of records. Please contact us! The Government can promise employees lower sentences or immunity in exchange for cooperation. Former employees (and current employees) can help break the cases wide open since they have far more information as to what was really happening than do the buyers.

Cases involving puppies who died or who had serious medical problems are the most important, but we also want cases in which the promised registration papers were not provided and in which a promised health certificate was not furnished.

PLEASE, CROSSPOST FAR AND WIDE, GET THE WORD OUT TO EVERY BULLETIN BOARD, EVERY BLOG, EVERY EMAIL LIST, EVERY FRENCH BULLDOG OR BULLDOG MEETUP, EVERY FRENCH BULLDOG OR BULLDOG CLUB. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
